Many people in Howard County depend on federal government jobs - over 11% of our workforce are direct federal employees, with many more working on federal contracts or grants. Together, about 25% of our community rely on these federal dollars to support their families and livelihoods.
We understand that when government contracts are cut or federal jobs are lost, it is not just a financial number - it is thousands of individuals and families facing uncertainty, stress, and real hardship. In 2024, nearly $6.1 billion in federal procurement supported local firms, making our community especially vulnerable to these changes.
The effects ripple far beyond the workplace: layoffs mean reduced tax revenues, increased childcare needs, more traffic congestion, housing challenges, and greater demand on community services. We recognize how deeply these impacts affect people’s lives, and that navigating job loss is an incredibly difficult experience.
During these uncertain times, let's support our displaced, hardworking, patriotic federal workers and their families. Let us work together toward economic resilience for all in our Howard County community.

On July 28, 2025, I joined the rally at Howard Community College to show my support for the faculty as they continue their fight for a fair contract. It’s been over a year - let’s get this done!
